Series 8:08 seeks to promote the professional and creative development of professional Canadian dance artists, to build a strong sense of community amongst these artists, to support processes that lead to successful presentations of new Canadian dance works, and to build a knowledgeable and appreciative audience for new dance.
We organize innovative workshop and performance events that pursue these goals through 3 programs:
Series 8:08 was founded in 1992, when the considerable energies and diverse needs of a large group of Toronto based dance artists coalesced. When our first performance workshop was held in February of that year, it marked the realization of two great community dreams: the inauguration of an ongoing process-oriented performance series, and the beginning of a new artist-driven dance service organization that would respond directly and creatively to the needs of our local artists, community, and audiences.
Series 8:08 has grown considerably since its early days, expanding into new areas of programming and gaining recognition as an important local resource for audiences and artists. Yet, even as we change in response to our developing community, we continue to be guided by our origins, consistently committed to individual, community, and audience development.
Our performances and workshops are made possible by grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council. We also acknowledge the support of the Dance Umbrella of Ontario.

We work in partnership with Harbourfront Centre to offer workshops with world class artists in our ATC Program, and are grateful to Tina Rasmussen and Lynanne Sparrow for making this possible.

This 2011/12 season we are thrilled to initiate a new partnership with Hub 14, with two residencies for selected Take Two artist, who will be provided with a maximum of 15 hours of studio each, to further research their artistic processes.

We also have a partnership with The Chimera Project, for their FRESH BLOOD festival. One outstanding choreographer, selected by Series 8:08 from the Choreographic Performance Workshops, will be presented in FRESH BLOOD 2012 on March 16th and 17th.

This year we are also organizing an ATC workshop in partnership with the Dancemakers Centre for Creation. Shannon Cooney will be teaching Dynamic Expansion on Friday September 30th and Saturday October 1st.
